East Greenland - a visit to the Northeast Greenland National Park with an expedition ship
We travel to the North-East Greenland National Park, the largest national park in the world with an area of 972,000 square kilometres, two and a half times the size of Germany. Only a few hundred people are supposed to visit it each year, and you need a permit to do so. We spend most of our time in the Soresby Sound area up to the Kaiser Franz Josef Fjord. We are travelling on the expedition ship MS Sea Spirit. There are 109 passengers and 72 crew members on board. There are also 18 members of the expedition team. The journey to the far north reveals the beauty and uniqueness of these landscapes, but also their fragility. Presumably the generation after next will not be able to experience...

It feels like being on a northern outpost of humanity. A barren, treeless, slightly mountainous landscape, snow and glaciers all around, the ground is frozen, daytime temperature currently around 5 degrees Celsius - high summer. As anorwegian its alwaysw refreshing to see our country through foreign lenses. I must have say you really found some choice locations on your trip and filmed them well. So much rock, yet still we found a way to get some sheep to stick around and graze a little, cut down some trees we sent to europe and over the years even have built a somewhat workable road system. Its really amazing
